Our Philosophy

“Wahkohtowin” to create a safe, holistic, and community-based healing home that promotes kindness, compassion, and understanding while working to reunite families.

Geoffery's Garden is a family focused, supportive housing initiative for parents involved in Child and Family Services. We  use a holistic, strength and solution focused approach. 

​

Our intention is to be a resource for parents in the community to bridge the gap between social and cultural barriers during the healing and reunification process.

​

We do this by providing a family - center approach. each family has individual needs based on their life experiences and situations which requires a holistic nurturing, solution focused and strength-based environment for healing recovery and reunification.

Geoffery’s Garden provides a sacred space that is drug and alcohol-free and is guided by the 7 sacred Grandfather teachings.

 

Through ceremony teachings and role modeling the families are given the opportunity to learn about their identity as Anishinaabe people and begin the process of decolonization.

 

They receive their spirit names, learn about their role in the physical world and the importance of passing the teachings on to the next generations to come. They learn how to walk the red road, how to follow and understand the cycle of Grandmother Moon, their role as Women and Men, the importance of traditional medicine, and their uses and how to harvest them.

 

They develop a relationship with the land by being on the land and receiving land-based teachings. The families attend weekly ceremonies and learn about protocols and how to carry themselves in a sacred way.
